Kuarup is more than a ritual: it's a part of Brazilian culture. In 2025, it was officially recognized and sanctioned by Law 15.113/25. Held annually in the Xingu Indigenous Park, it brings together diverse peoples in a meeting of memory, spirituality, and collective strength.
For two days, people gather around music, dance, Huka Huka wrestling and the sharing of food, transforming mourning into community life, reaffirming the continuity of traditions.
The legal recognition of Kuarup strengthens not only cultural preservation, but also the fight to protect the forest and the people who care for it, reaffirming the collective strength of the Xingu peoples, their relationship with nature, and their resilience in the face of external pressures that threaten their territory, ways of life, and biodiversity.
Preserving Kuarup means preserving memory, ancestral knowledge and the future of new generations.
